How Did We Get Here?
It all started with a sunset. Sitting around the firepit of our new home, we probably had only lived there a few days when it happened; but this was the first chance we had to catch the sunset with all the chaos of moving and getting settled into a new life on the farm. It was a beautiful sunset no doubt, to trigger the thought, planting the seed that would grow into the incredible lifestyle we enjoy now. We have experienced many more since that day, both in that same spot, and in many other spots all over the country and the world!
We purchased that home with two simple goals, more space for recreation, and some privacy from living on postage stamp lots with neighbors on all sides. The fire pit on top of the hill looked relaxing and inviting when we toured the property, but the sunsets and the effect they would have on our life was an amenity completely left out of the real estate listing.
It's impossible to remember the exact words spoken, as my wife and I sat there reflecting on the beauty and everything we had accomplished to get there. Regardless of who said them, the words “Never Miss It” were spoken into the universe, and we vowed then and there to live every day fully, never missing a chance to see real beauty or to spend time with the ones we loved.
Edward Norton Lorenz is credited with the concept of the butterfly effect; the idea that small causes may have large effects. That first sunset was the butterfly’s wing flap. Being voluntarily unemployed, growing our own food and herbal remedies, with kids who don’t go to school…. the tornado.
